Israeli Airstrikes Reported in Lebanon Despite Ongoing Truce

(MENAFN) Airstrikes and gunfire were reported in southern Lebanon early Tuesday, while drones were also observed flying over the capital, according to reports citing the National News Agency.

Israeli warplanes reportedly conducted three separate strikes on the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya in the Nabatieh district at around 6 a.m. local time. In a separate incident, Israeli forces also fired heavy machine guns toward the Mihniyeh neighborhood in Bint Jbeil.

The developments come amid continued tensions along the border despite a ceasefire agreement that was introduced earlier this month and later extended. Reports indicate that drones were simultaneously seen over Beirut during the incidents.

According to Lebanese official figures cited in reports, more than 2,500 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced since early March as a result of ongoing Israeli military actions across the country.

A temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect on April 17 and was later extended by an additional three weeks, though reported violations and exchanges of fire have continued in several areas.
