Brazilian President Lula Claims US Invents Pretext for War on Iran

(MENAFN) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated on Wednesday that the United States fabricated false claims as a pretext for launching an "unnecessary war" against Iran.

"The United States got involved in an unnecessary war in Iran, claiming that Iran had nuclear weapons or that they were trying to make nuclear weapons. That's a lie!" Lula declared during an interview in Brazil’s northeastern state of Ceara, according to reports.

He criticized repeated U.S. military actions built on deceptive justifications, referencing Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, which were never found. "That's just a pretext ... and war has never solved anything," said Lula.

Lula urged the UN Security Council to take a measured approach toward the crisis, highlighting its direct effects on Brazil, including rising fuel costs and mounting economic pressures.

Pointing to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, he explained that Brazil has faced upward pressure on diesel prices, prompting the government to lower fuel taxes and enhance market oversight to shield low-income populations.

The U.S. and Israel conducted coordinated military strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, disrupting global shipping, driving oil prices higher, and creating shocks in the global economy, as stated by reports.
