Soldier Gets Killed in Assualt in Syria

(MENAFN) A Syrian soldier was killed early Tuesday when unknown assailants attacked an army headquarters in Mayadin city, eastern Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, according to the state news agency SANA.

No group has claimed responsibility, and authorities have not provided additional details about the circumstances of the attack.

The incident follows a separate attack on Monday in which four Syrian security personnel were killed by the ISIS at a security checkpoint west of Raqqa in northeastern Syria. ISIS sleeper cells remain active in the region, which the group controlled from 2014 until being ousted by a US-led international coalition in 2017. The area later came under the control of the YPG/SDF before the Syrian Army recently reestablished its presence.
